Description: The unit consists of 14 beds, including 5
triage/inpatient beds, 6 labor beds, and 2 operating room beds.
Nurses are responsible for scrubbing during C-sections. High risk
obstetric patients are managed on this unit, while low risk
antepartum patients are redirected. Magnesium patients will be
assigned to labor and delivery. Nurses must be adept in fast-paced
environments. Nurses perform their own exams and full assessments,
but are not permitted to insert intrauterine pressure catheters.
The unit operates with a charge nurse who does not take patients.
Nurses may be tasked with duties in the OB or nursery areas but
will not take patients while floating. Weekend shifts are required
every third weekend for days. Travelers do not work holidays. The
hospital provides scrubs. There is in-house hospitalist or
intensivist coverage three nights a week. Pharmacy and respiratory
therapy are available 24/7. Common patient diagnoses include
high-risk cases and those requiring rapid responses. Customer
service orientation is critical; applicants should be prepared to
discuss customer service skills during interviews. Requirements
